  1. Hi guys, i have been reading here for a while now finally i decided to join and ask for help.

I am sorry if this is the wrong thread.

I want to subtitle a video, I know how to do it in virtual dub, but i want to subtitle it in sony vegas and dvd architec.

now I know how to subtitle a short video in sony vegas but I have like 45 minutes to 1 hour video to subtitle and that will take forever in vegas and it's a pain in the ars.

I have my subtitle ready, and I can have it saved as whatever file file so it's supported in vegas and dvd architect

I was playing around with vegas and dvd architect last night, import stuff from here to there but i had a hard time.

can someone please tell me step by step guide how do this.

I want to do hard subtitle with the video, but the only way i know how to that is in virtualdub but i want to try other software.

I don't mind if i have to do it as a separate track or what ever, I will just burn the dvd then rip it off, that way it will come with the subtitle hard coded.

    please help.

    thanks

The reason i want to do it in vegas is because I have the option to add alot of things, and eport in different video formats.

    thanks

Hard subbed means that the subtitles are part of the image, and cannot be switched off. If you are happy with this then it is very easy in Vegas. Just use the Text media generator. Drag t to the timeline above your video and modify the text to suit. Add a new generator for each new subtitle. Adjust the timing by dragging the edges of the text clip. Once you have the timing right, just encode the video and normal and author. DVD Architect doesn't even know about the subs because from a DVD perspective, there aren't any.

Now, if you want to create switchable subs, it can be done (apparently) through Vegas/DVDA but it is a lot more complicated. Seach the help files (F1) for details.

If you already have a soft sub file then you are better off using that, although I don't know what formats DVDA accepts (again, help is your friend), or you can easily add the subs afterwards.

  3. Hey thanks for the reply, sony vegas gives me a hard time when i am subtiling something long, for example It's easy for me to subtitle a song or like a 5 minute video, when I have to subtitle a 1 hour video, that's a different story, i have to do it sentence by sentence. so my problem is that when i subtitle a sentence and i have to adjust it on the timeline, i have to make it very very very small, and there is a moment of silence and when i make the neext subtitle it gets close to the previous subtitle so it shows while there is a moment of silence, I had hard time with that.

I don't think there is a need to use Vegas for your purpose.

Just open the "Help" file in DVD Architect. Go to "Index" > "Subtitles" and you will find a detailed Step-by-step instructions how to add and menage a subtitle track for your video.

Those errors are usually described in detail, so just pay attention what is reported under error. You may wish to write it down, so that you could go back and correct all errors.
    The most common errors are:
    - subtitle(s) are too long,
    - a font is too big.

I would recommend that no single subtitle event is longer than 38-40 characters (including spaces among words). If it is longer - simply divide the text by adding a new subtitle event.

  7. This is the error I am getting;

................... contains a subtitle event on subtitle track 1 starting at time 00:00:08:11 that is too complex due to one or more horizontal lines.

but it's alot of them, so how can I fix this? or a quick way, do i have to edit each of those error manually?

    THank you
