  1. I am replacing an older DVD player that has broken. It is connected to a TV that is an older 420p Sony and that works good. Can I use a Blue Ray DVD player with this TV? I plan to replace the TV with a 1080P LCD in December 2010 and don't want to replace the DVD player a second time.

First off I believe you mean 480p not 420p.

    And the answer is maybe.

Technically speaking bluray requires an hdmi connection. However that is for full 1080p resolution. You can still of course use component and or composite connections for the time being. Eventually they may clamp down on the analog outputs and force the use of hdmi only but for now analog will work.

So you SHOULD be able to connect your bluray player with no ill effects. Just remember it won't technically be high def just progressive - the limitation of your tv set of course.
