Some how I have this setup wrong. Its setup where whatever is playing on the DirectV it plays that on surround sound. When I put in a dvd the dvd plays but I still hear sound from the Directv show thats playing. I need to set it up where It plays the surround sound of what Im watching...How do I need to hook up for this. some I have digital opital and some I have digital coaxial on back of units. SO I have a box that one end it optical one end it coaxial so I can convert. What steps should I go to hook this up to play my directv with surround sound, then when I switch to DVD it have surround sound too...

    Thanks

You've left out quite a few details, like what is your surround sound playback device? A surround sound amplifier? And what are you playing the DVDs on? A standalone DVD player or a computer? If you send a coaxial or optical signal to a surround amp, it should decode that properly to 5.1 or whatever your speaker setup is. Those settings would be in the amplifier.

RCA Home Surround Sound Reciever Dolby Digital no computer with this set up just 42 plasma,RCA Reciever,DVD Recorder/Player and DirectV HD reciever. its 5.1 I just think I got few things twisted up always plays the sound from the directv when I put dvd in it still plays the sound from the tv I change all the sources on my tv and the sound is still on even when there is no picture...No Matter what I do the surround sound from the reciever always plays the directv show sound.
