  1. I downloaded and installed a Chinese software called Qvod Player which is used for getting and watching movies. However, after I installed (and un-installed) Qvod, when I started Internet Explorer, instead of Yahoo, I got some Chinese website. If I clicked the homepage icon in the IE browser, then I got homepage Yahoo. But every time I started IE, first it would go to a Chinese website. (Firefox did not have this problem). I tried various Registry modifications that I found on the web, but nothing worked. Then I downloaded and installed HijackThis
    (http://majorgeeks.com/download3155.html)
and clicked "Do a system Scan and Save Logfile".
Looking at the logfile, I noticed some files that might be malware. I temporarily deleted a file and tried IE. If this did not solve the problem (homepage stolen on IE), I just restored the deleted file. After several attempts of deleting files, I chose this file from the logfile
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\NetAgent.dll
    (see screenshot, red circle)
When I deleted this file, that solved the problem of Internet Explorer homepage being hijacked to a Chinese website.
I think everyone should use HijackThis and print a logfile when their computer is working correctly. Then, if you get malware, it is easy to compare the logfiles from your known good computer and when you have malware. Then it should be easy to spot and delete the malware by comparing the two logfiles.

I wouldn't rely on a before and after hjt log. There is plenty of malware that will not show up in a log.

If you install a real software player such as VLC you don't get malware.
