I'm not sure how long this has been around. Maybe it's been awhile and I just never noticed it. But some of the
free versions of software that I use have unknown?...expiration dates and are no longer usable.
I noticed that my version of Make MKV had expired and no longer worked So I downloaded the new free version
and it worked again. No problem at least for awhile.

I had previously mentioned that my older free version of DVDFab Decrypter would decrypt Bds. Last months version would't do it and neither would this months version. The old version that was free and did decrypt BDs no longer works for BDs either. I'm not complaining because it's free. But I was wondering how long ago did freeware turn into trialware?

I always thought that if you had a freeware version of a software that version was free. Seems like now it's not.

  2. Often developers code in an "expiration date" to ensure users are using the most up to date software, which have bug fixes etc...

DVDFab is a different story, because they have a payware version, and there is incentive to get you to upgrade or buy that version.
