I have just purchased a Sony HVR-Z7E and a little confused as to what format I want to be shooting in. I obviously want to shoot in HD, but have researched and researched, but am still baffled as to what format I need. All my filming is done in Night Clubs and Bars as I film DJ etc. Should I use interlaced or Progressive? Please comeone help, so confused.![]()

it's an HDV cam your choices aren't all that many. 50i or 25p. i would think it depends on what the final video is for: dvd, blu-ray, computer video? shoot progressive for computer work like youtube, interlaced if all you're doing is dvd. 50i has twice the motion samples of 25p which uses 2 fields shot at the same time to make one frame.

i shoot 30p when using an HDV cam. it can easily and nicely convert to 30i mpeg-2 for dvds and i get the 30p for online video. some loss of fast motion smoothness but it's not noticeable for most people.
