Anybody know of any DVD recording device with a combination of these specifications:

Upscaling feature (probably through HDMI, but do you know of any that does through component)
    Component Inputs and Component Outputs
HDMI output (and if you know of any that has HDMI input as well, then that would be great, but not necessary)
    S-Video Input

Now... it could be a DVD recorder, a DVD/VHS/mini-DV etc. combo recorder, it could be a DVR, etc... just as long as it has an upscaling feature with hdmi output, s-video input, component output, and most importantly a component input.

Having trouble locating one with all of these. I'm finding units with one or the other or 2 of the four. It's a toughy to find.

I finally found one on my own, but if you know of others please list them so that I can check them all out.

In a related note, if we find enough of them, perhaps a moderator make a sticky of these for others? Well, I don't know much demand there is for this besides me.

But anyhoo, the one i found is the Sony RDR-HX715.

If I find more, I'll list 'em.

And if you guys have opinions on each of these models, let me know. It might help me decide.

I just wanted to point out that this model is long out of production and you'll have to buy it used, like on Ebay or some similar place. Caveat emptor.

It has component input but it's missing the original remote. No upconverting as I don't believe the Sony has either.
Component inputs on anything other than a PC card are long gone and HDMI IN just won't happen, the powers that be wouldn't allow it.

NEED A NEW HDD DVD RECORDER THAT IS AS GOOD AS MY OLD OMNI.

My old OMNI DVD recorder died a couple of weeks back and I am yet to find one that can do what it could do. If someone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. What I am looking for is one that:
    1. Has an easy to use time shift, on AV connected devices as well as the tuner.
    2. That allows you to watch a DVD or possibly another HDD pre-recorded program while it is still time shifting.
    3. That allows you to easily jump/ skip through adds.
    4. That allows you to edit recorded programs and to join or split them.

I was obviously spolit with the OMNI one, as I have tried a LG, Panasonic, AWA and an OLIN and amazingly the OLIN comes the closest, but it doesn't allow for editing of the recorded programs, as well as a few other draw backs.

Hope someone can assist, or can tell me where I can get an OMNI again.

    Rod.

It originally would not start the hard drive every time it was turned on, then it started locking up when it was on for more than a day. Finally it stopped altogether, no display no output. The only thing going was the cooling fan. At that point I took the hard drive out and dumped the rest of it, which is something I am regretting now. I should have put it in somewhere to see if it could be fixed, but I thought, niavely, that the new ones now would be far better. Silly me.

I don't know anything about the Omni. But there are other units on the market that have power supply problems. Your unit sounds similar to them. If it will not power up and show a screen on the TV then it is probabably a bad capacitor or some simple component in the power supply that has failed. Like maybe a voltage regulator or diode, etc. Did you search for any forums on the Omni ? The Cyberhome recorders had power supply issues and there were forums that documented the fixes. If you are at all handy with a soldering iron you might be able to tfix your unit. What is the exact model Omni you have ? I will do some checking if you want.

If only I had thought of that before I threw it in the rubbish bin. I realised after I had dumped it and found that the current ones are not as good that I should have kept it and got it repaired, but unfortunately it is too late for that now. I'm just hoping that someone knows where I can by another one of them, even if it is a second hand one. Since I'm in Australia I presume I will have to get one set up for our power here.

    Regards,
    Rod
