need help with subtitles

so basically i have downloaded some anime with fansubs, and im trying to convert the mkv to a viewable format on the ps3 which i can do successfully its just when i try adding the subtitle files it goes a bit weird
for example this is what it should look like


and after i add them this is the result


i hope someone can help me out with this
im not sure if this goes in the "subtitle" section or another category, sorry mods if i post it in the wrong section

What do you convert with? Most converters wont keep the ssa/ass subtitle settings.

i use mkv2vob, i load the original mkv file into the converter and have autoload subs from file (the subs and the fonts are all in the same file as the video) i convert it into a VOB under x264
