  1. SO I'm trying to caputure an old Hi8 tape to my PC using an Sony Digital Camera and a firewire connection. Using MGI Video Wave III.

So I get the video but no sound.
Should the sound come across the firewitre connection or will it not due to the fact that it's not a digital tape???

    Thanks

  2. It doesn't matter what kind of tape you're playing in the camcorder as the sound is transferred down the firewire together with video so I believe there is something wrong with your program settings. If not, you should try another capture software.

  3. I think it's normal without sound during capturing. Why don't you try capturing it for a few minutes and play it back. I'm pretty sure the result would be video and sound. I guarantee you it's gonna work.

    Have fun!!!

  4. so if I use a Digital tape recorded with the camera it works fine.
If I use an old analog tape recorded years ago with a different camera it doesn't. I can hear the sound on the camera and on the TV when I connect through the RCA jacks.

Just not when I replay it on the PC.

    Any ideas???

    Thanks

    weid,

I capture from a vcr to my AIW Radeon. Though different means, I believe we're trying to achieve the same thing.

My setup: A cable from the AIW that includes connectors for s-video and rca video/left audio/right audio. This is what I plug my vcr into. This will get the video and sound to the capture card, BUT, I have another plug from the AIW to the line-in (or mic) on my sound card. Which means, my video capture is from the AIW and the audio is from the line-in. Perhaps you need something similar.

    Hope this helps,

    neomaine

  6. If your camcorder outputs video and audio to TV it will do the same down the firewire cable. You should know two things:

    1. When capturing with MGI Video Wave you will hear no sound. This doesn't mean that sound is not being recorded. If you play the captured video you will hear the sound as well.

    2. There is an audio option in Video Wave where you can select the source of the audio to be capture from. Make sure that sound card is not selected and use DV device for sound and video.

    I hope this will help

  7. I've already thought about 1 & 2 so I'll just have to keep playing with it.

    Thanks
