    Hi all

I purchased a Canon HV20 on Feb 3 of this year. I did NOT purchase any warranty along with it because I rarely use them.
Sure enough, the camera stopped working this past May and was past the 60 day warranty period. It kept displaying the CONDENSATION HAS BEEN DETECTED error message.

So I went to the Canon site and entered the serial number to get an estimate on the repair cost and was informed that the camera was still under warranty and that the repairs would be done for free! I immediately gathered all of the paperwork and shipped the camera to the repair center in NJ. The day after they received it, I got an email saying that they have inspected the camera and that the camera would be fixed for free!! So I am waiting for it to be repaired and shipped back to me.

The paperwork (purchase receipt from OneCall) clearly stated that the camera was purchased on 2/3 and that it was a refurbished unit. But the repairs are still being done for free!!

Has anyone else experienced this? Believe me, I am NOT complaining because I cannot afford to get another camera right now.

Bottom line: if you have a Canon camera refurbished unit and it's out of warranty, be sure to go to Canon's website, enter the serial number and see what comes up.

    Good to know.

My old Sony Digital8 camcorder failed due to a "moisture detected" error even when the cam was in 10% humidity. I suspected a sensor error.

I can honestly say that I was nowhere near sand or water.

But in the future when I buy another HD camcorder, I will buy the extended warranty. I've read quite a few posts about how sensitive HD cameras can be.

I still say warranties are an overpriced "stupid tax".

Add up all the warranty costs in your house, and you could probably replace the one thing that might actually break.

The one warranty service that we had that we actually used is home warranty service. As a matter of fact, we used it so much that the company kicked us off.

They don't like it when you try to use those warranties. Figure in lawyer fees.

I've used the Visa to challenge payment. That gets their attention.

you'd have to be an idiot not to get an extended warranty of 4-5 years on your camera for a mere $100

they cost a liitle more to repair than your typical toaster

get as long an extended warranty as they offer...the years fly by fast...seems I just bought mine and it's about to expire...it also makes it easier to sell if there's time left
