I have a VCR here by my computer along with a hauppauge winTv card in my computer... i want to be able to burn straight from the source instead of clogging my computer up with the files... is there any software that does this?

i tried Roxio Plug and Burn although it would not let me use my hauppauge winTV however it would let my use the VCR>camcorder>Firewire method... this method looked alright but when i finished to finalize the disc it erred and junked my disc

so... even if it will only let me use firewire capture it will be better than plug and burn

If your Hauppauge card gives you a DVD compatible MPEG file, you would still need to 'author' it to the DVD format if you want a DVD player compatible disc. If you just wanted to put it on the disc as a MPEG-2, then it's not a DVD, just data. I still doubt you can do that with your hardware without creating a MPEG-2 file on your hard drive first. And that's the easier way.

FireWire capture and conversion to MPEG-2 on the fly would take a very fast computer. I would suggest you look into a DVD recorder if you really want to do 'on the fly' discs.

You should have about 10GB free space on your hard drive for temporary storage of the Hauppauge file, and a authored file ready to burn. This is for a DVD-5 size file. Then just delete those files after a successful burn. I do this all the time.

    And welcome to our forums.

My system can do direct to disc using ulead video studio 9, nero express, sony vegas but watch for non-essential running background tasks ... they can cause problems.

When doing direct to disc ... disable power saving and screensaver, setup recording and leave pc alone till task completes.

    Roxio products are crapware.

    No.
Buy a DVD recorder if you need this "instant" video conversion.

i Think you are misunderstanding me or i didn't Give Enough Info.. my Hauppauge card is an Old fashioned WinTV-GO card so it's not fancy like the new ones so no... it does not output MPEG files unless by a 3rd party software... but all the same i thank you for your help
