VCD Formats

Hopefully this is not a newbe question:

i can play a selfburned vcd cd on my computer dvd player very easily. When
watching this cd in my home dvd player it says that this is a vcd cd and
start to play the cd. But continuosly after a while the player stopps and 1
sec. later it plays again. When looking at the mpg file i can see that it
was decoded whith the following parameters:

MPEG-1 352x288 25fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 192kbps (PAL)

Is there anything wrong with this. If so can i convert this mpg to real mpg?

Any help would be perfect

The settings you mentioned sound like VCD PAL and shouldn't cause any problems what so ever.
If you want to convert it to MPG, use VCDGear.

The audio for a standard VCD is 224kb/s (If I remember correct)... The file you mention is 192Kb/s... So, your VCD is xVCD...
For most players, that difference doesn't matter. Maybe for yours it does!

You're not the only one! Im' still wondering how someone can be satisfied with this player (Compatibility list).

So you got the file elsewhere and didn't encode it by yourself? In that case, I don't know how to fix it (except re-encoding, but this will probably give you poor quality). The problem is TMPGEnc's scene change detection, that is checked on standard VCD templates. Philips players (at least this one, I have it too) doesn't like the way TMPGEnc adds I-frames.
The only working VCDs I have managed to create with TMPGEnc were done with GOP 1,4,2,1 and scene change disabled.

You can get ~ the same playtime with better quality by making an XSVCD (352x288/240), 3-4 pass VBR in CCE, avg ~1150, min 900, max 1500 kpbs. This will work on Philips DVD 622 as long as the minimum bitrate doesn't drop too low
