Hello, a rookie here, but I ripped a movie to my harddrive and have subsequently wasted about 10 DVDRs now on trying to make a backup copy of it. I have been using DVDXStudios CloneDVD, and at first the problem was that the backup would not be bootable in any of my at home players. I have somehow found a way to fix that problem, and on the next try the movie would play, but there was no audio, I think that may have been a faux pas on my part trying to erase commentary audio, but either way the movie still played.

Now on the last few attempts the problem has been that the movie will not play. I have audio on the menus, but when I hit play, or load the movie through the chapter select screen, all I get are "stills" of the first frame of each chapter, and it just skips through the 20 chapter stills in about 30 seconds until the movie thinks its over and returns to the main menu screen. Any help would be appreciated, I'll probably continue doing what I'm doing.

What dvd media are you using to burn with? What program are you ripping the dvd to the hard disk with?

  3. If you are making a 1:1 backup on a DL then use DVDFab Decrypter to rip and ImgBurn to burn.
If you need to shrink the video to fit on a SL then use DVDShrink.

I have both 4.7 and 9.5s. They are Sony I believe, so maybe not the best quality but I'm assuming not the worst either. This version of CloneDVD itself rips the original to the harddrive, in the .buf .vob formats, then I use that Video_TS folder to attempt to burn the backup, hasn't worked out well so far. It just seems odd that only the stills show up, I'll try to rip it again and see if it works.

More on Sony media at http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/showthread.php/sony-daxon-sony-424.html

In a nutshell, some Sony is good, some okay, some crappy. Read that post on that site for more info.

    It may be your problem.
