I'm looking for a tool to cut avi/xvid at a certain MB, or a certain % of the file size. I tried to cut at the middle frame to see how big file size difference there was, and it was huge. I know I can try and try, but that seems a little time consuming if I want to do it several times. Are there any good/easy freeware applications to do this? I don't really need the tool to do anything else, but it doesn't really matter if it's a multi purpose application. It is important that it is precise. I tried a shareware application that had 10% difference in file sizes. And NO re-encoding of course.

  2. VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod have the ability to see the byte position within the file in the status area (where it usually shows the frame number, etc). You have to enable the option though.

Unfortunately, it's in hex, not decimal.

Set Video -> Direct Stream Copy to avoid reencoding.

Oh, I forgot -- you can specify that the output should be saved in segments with File -> Save Segmented AVI. You specify the size of each segment in megabytes. Each will be playable.

    Thanks for the help!

Don't really see the point of HEX numbers... It's as geekish as binary watches

  4. Windows XP's calculator has a hex/decimal conversion.
