I hope that someone can advise me on how to create a high quality Xvid with separate Subtitle files (idx/sub or srt) from an original DVD.
What I would prefer is a method to create either a 700MB or 1.4GB xvid file and possibly also have AC3 sound. I'm not sure what the difference is between idx/sub & srt subtitle files or which is better/popular.
I would really appreciate any help. Thanks

If for 700 MB, then you probably want MP3 audio as the AC3 file (especially if DD 5.1) will take up too much space. AutoGK will do what you want. Decrypt the movie to the hard drive. Open the IFO in AutoGK. The default setting is for a 1400 MB AVI (XviD or DivX) split into 2 pieces. If you keep the default 2 CD setting, you'll also get the AC3 audio by default. Choose the audio track and subtitles language you want in the main screen. If you want separate subs, go into the Advanced Settings and check the "Use External Subtitles" box. You'll get subtitles in the IDX/SUB format (VobSubs). If you want SRT subs you can OCR them yourself later. IDX/SUB are the original DVD subtitles (same colors, font, positioning, etc). SRT is a smaller text-based subtitle format.

I actually want to do the same as the original poster. Want to convert a DVD to whatever has the better quality at 1.4g/movie with the option of soft subs (external subs).
I tried using AutoGK and I couldnt get the file to play on my computer running XP at all but it plays on my Vista computer with no audio. -

Ic...but I dont know where to get the codecs by itself...so I thought it would be better to get it all at once. I guess I might have to uninstall them and find them one by one.
