Vicky Christina Barcelona - Not bad. Pretty light and humorous. Javier Bardem plays quite a different character than his role in "No Country for Old Men"

Tru Blood (HBO Series) - As entertaining as it is silly. They dress Anna Paquin in miniskirts, so extra points for that. Quite a few LOL moments.

    Rome
(HBO Series) - Never saw it when it was on TV. I picked this up over the holidays. Each episode is a mini movie. Must have cost a few hundred million $ to produce this series. Amazing attention to details. Not always historically correct, but great acting and interesting plot lines. Why do the ancient Romans always have British accents?

The Fabulous Stains - 1981 Cult film recently reissued on Rhino. I don't know why I liked this flick as much as I did, but it's captivating for some reason. "The Fabulous Stains is a 1981 film about three teenage girls, including Diane Lane and Laura Dern, who start a punk band." It's dark, rainy, and little in the way of humor. But it's good.

Two Lane Blacktop - 1970 road film with James Taylor and Dennis Wilson. The "Easy Rider" of muscle car flicks.

Enjoyed Big Love, although it has been a while since the last season.

Dexter (Season 3 now. Good stuff).

Still get out Firefly from time to time.

    Deadwood (also now deceased).

    Top Gear.

Defiance is a solid war movie. Worth a watch.

Been going back through my collection of 70's and 80's exploitation of late - Re-Animator, Basket Case, Big Bird Cage etc. All fun.

If you missed it last year, The Assassination of Jesse James is well worth a watch. It is long, but it is different to most other films being released at the moment. It is a very visual film, a film maker's film.

I also received the 5 disc Blade Runner BluRay set, and the 4 disc Godfather Signature release (also BluRay) that I am still working my way through as time permits.

The comments and score at IMDB aren't very encouraging. It will probably go direct to DVD over here, but I will keep an eye out.

If the series is a big commercial series - Lost, Heroes, House etc then we get what the networks like to call "fast tracked", which just means that we get it 3 - 4 weeks behind the US broadcast. For everything else it could be months before it goes to air over here.

We have one of the highest download rates in the world for overseas TV series because our networks like to screw us over. At least we down to a few weeks now. A few years back we would be anything up to two years or more behind.

I don't expect to see BL go to air until probably middle of the year.

This is the first year we have had a series of Top Gear go to air within 12 months of the UK. Dr Who tends to go to air here a week or two after the final episode of that season goes to air in the UK, and until this year, would open with the Christmas episode (in July !). This year we got the Christmas episode a few days ago.

Probably because all the actors were British.

Rome was a collaboration between HBO and the BBC and filmed in Italy.

Righteous Kill ? - Really ? I'd put it up there with Anamorph and 88 Minutes as examples of what the washed up are doing to avoid retirement.
