Which one is the favorite (most popular) codec pack people use for encoding/decoding HD content media files?

    K-Lite or CCCP or other?

No one here is a fan of codec packs. Install only the codecs you need.

The only "all-in-one" I would recommend is ffdshow.

ffdshow would do what you want and it is much safer than installing a codec pack.

ffdshow is a DirectShow decoding filter for decompressing AVI, DivX, XviD, WMV, MPG, MPEG2(SVCD, DVD), H264, AC3, DTS, AAC with image postprocessing like video noise removing filters and audio postprocessing.
Or you can look here to find individual codecs.

  5. Or use a player with its own built-in decoders. Like MPCHC, VLC, KMPlayer.

  6. I use MPCHC in preference to the player in TotalMedia (my PVR soft). It plays recorded cable HD (and DVDs!) better and uses less system resources. [shrugs]

At any rate, it's an easy solution.
