to author a DVDr movie... does the file have to be in mpeg2?

I just created a premiere movie and extracted it at a DV AVI file. File size is no 16gigs. I just bought a DVD burner and need to make this movie file I created in premiere to be playable on regular DVD players. How can I go about doing this? Thank you!
