It doesn't appear to be on the market yet. At least WD sites don't seem to have any info. The WD10EADS is a 1GB 'green' drive. That most likely means it runs at 5400RPM to save energy. I've seen mention of a WD20EADS, but no one seems to have one.
Since it's unlikely they were able to double the data density on the platters, they would have to double the number of platters. That would make the drive even slower. That may not be a problem for archival use, but read/write may be slow. And I wouldn't want to have to defrag it too often. -

I presume you're talking about data throughput, not platter rotation, but I still don't see why doubling the platters (and doubling the heads) would cause a slowdown. Okay, perhaps doubling the mass of the head assemblies would create a very tiny amount of seek delay, but one that would be real-world noticeable?

The new drive will be 4 platters based on 500Gb / platter, rather than 333 on the WD10EACS, which should improve data throughput.
Looks like drive will begin shipping by the end of December. -
