    Video is data, and there are many kinds of video data. Authoring is often reference to the specific process by which video data is "prepared" for DVD-Video formatting. This is when MPEG-2 video, audio and subtitles are merged, and where menus can be added. It spits out a VIDEO_TS folder with DVD-Video formatted files, 1GB max each, that plays in a DVD-Video "DVD player".

    Good definition, lordsmurf. templedog, if you look to the upper left on this page, you will also see info about the DVD structure, format and specifications in 'WHAT IS' DVD.
