Hey guys. Was looking for some advice on purchasing a new video camera. We do a (very) local broadcast in a small town, and currently use a sony dvd camera. Its time has come, and we were looking into getting a Hard Drive Video Camera, Sony or Canon.

My question is, are hard drive cameras picture quality as good as dvd cameras, or worse. We are looking at $1000-2000 Money wise. Thanks and hope to hear from someone soon! Basically just need to know if picture quality is good, as I had heard hard drive cameras were running behind in picture quality.

Buy a Canon HG20 or HG21 if you insist on a Hard Drive Camera. Picture quality is quite good.

Consider Canon HDV/DV model HV30 (tape based) instead. HDV 1080i and DV 480i offer much better editing convenience.
