  1. I am a newbie to the video recording stuff. In the past I have tried to stay away from it like the plague because the quality of the common cameras were so terrible....or maybe it is because the ability of the common person to use them was terrible. Anyway I decided to take the plunge.

I am looking for a basic hd camcorder from a recognizable brand - or if a new brand at least a brand that has a good reputation. How much can I expect to pay, at the low end? It would be helpful if some of you could throw out some brand/model combos for cameras at the low end so that I can begin to familiarize myself with them.

Anyone dare to guess how much the black Friday price would be?

    I got it today,but I didn't test it yet.

I paid $499 for the cam+$95 for 5 year warranty +free shipping and no tax where I live.

it comes only with 60 day warranty from Canon

BTW.are you going to buy it from China,or the US ?

  4. I will buy it in the U.S. Stuff like this now, because of the exchange rate is more expensive...also it is hard to know what products are first run and what are seconds

What do you think this camera will sell for on black friday?

  5. on the HV20 price will stay the same I think .On the 30 MAYBE $50 to $100.

remember . The number of products are limited on black Friday like 10/20 per store so your chance of getting any is slim except if you wait 12 hours outside the store in the cold, rain, snow .

personally i wouldn't get HV20 or 30, it is to much work with the tapes.

either Canon HF11 (16GB flash based) or Canon HG21 (120gb hard drive based)

you get files right away, never have to worry about good transfer card.

    .
what kind of hard work are you talking about?

tapes are 1000 times safer than any hardrive/flash drive base cameras

when you capture HD video from tape to HDD you loose quality, there is no way around that. even with the best capture device, there will be some degredation.

tapes might be "safer" so it is backing up your data. plus it doesn't matter if tapes are safer, how you gonna share your memories with family? send them HDV tape? there is a good chance that they don't have HD camcorder and even if they do, HD recordings between different brands don't play nice with each other.

Man, what are you talking about? You probably don't have a clue how HDV is captured to HDD. Do some research before posting nonsense.

You are completely out of touch with current technology. You probably never heard of Blu-ray, BD, BD5, BD9, AVCHD, Blu-ray on DVD5/9, MPEG-2 on AVCHD(DVD5/9), tsMuxeR.

I won't argue with the flash craze but I won't go there. The HV20/30 will serve you well and are an incredible bargain. I just can't fault them.
