  1. I have an mkv file with subtitles that I want to watch on my TV. I've tried using pyTivo but I can't get it to work, so I was hoping to find some alternative. The video is 720p, so I don't want to convert it to a DVD. However, I assume that if I could convert it to a friendlier format and burn that file onto a DVD, it would play on my DVP5982 player. What method would you recommend that I try, while keeping the quality of the video intact? Thanks!

You don't have too many choices. Whatever you convert it to you will have to reduce the resolution down to 720 x nnn or less. Your options are either DVD or Divx using the Home Theatre profile.

Use FAVC or DVD Flick or ConvertXtoDVD to convert to DVD, or use Xvid4PSP and the AVI Hardware setting to create a Divx playable on oyur player. Both options mean a big cut in resolution.
