I need to buy a new laptop for my Computer Games course, however, the graphics card that will come with the laptop is a "ATI HD3470" which is kind of low end. I will be needing a high end graphics card for my laptop, one that is power effecient too.

I don't know if you can use the desktop graphic cards in laptops or not, if not, where can I find Laptop graphic cards?

No, you can't use desktop graphics cards in laptops.
You'll have to buy a laptop that has the graphics capabilities you need.
That'll probably be a high end model and thus expensive.

Laptops with high end graphics are TOO EXPENSIVE

Because this laptop is comes with an ATi card rather than an Intel, I am guesing you can upgrade the graphics card, is there anywhere I can buy laptop graphics cards?

  4. Laptops almost always have integrated graphics which can't be upgraded at all. What model laptop do you have?

What make/model of laptop are you looking at that has a "card"? I suspect the laptop uses the ATI chipset, which is something very much different than an ATI card.

  8. I have never even heard of a laptop which which could be upgraded with a desktop graphics card. Well, maybe this one:

And as has been stated before, laptop graphics are rarely upgradable. There have been a very with the graphics on a model specific card that could be updated. But those update options are generally very narrow and short lived. You get your choice of 2 or 3 different cards that are available at the time of manufacture. Next year's hot now graphics card will not be made available in the same card form factor.

I didn't see anything on that web page indicating you could upgrade the graphics.

You like em big, eh? Dono if i'd want that on my lap. We used to call those 'luggables' rather than portables. I had similar computer back in the day (Same site, check out the Osborne 1), but I wouldn't want to set it on my lap.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

Laptop graphics are not upgradable (you might be able to increase the video RAM).

Surely you can get advice from your lecturers and tutors. I'd expect they would have a short list of recommended models and dealers.
