Hi, I'm new to converting. I want to know if I can convert an avi movie file and shrink it at the same time? Is there one program I can do this with? I'm trying to put 2 movies on 1 dvd, but I don't have hd space to convert and recode again.

    Can someone help me? Thanks

If you want to keep decent quality, keep the running time to around 2 hours. Trying to squeeze two movies onto a single disc will give you lower quality.

That said, if you use the correct tools then you will only have to encode once to make it fit. Only a moron encodes to make it too big, then shrinks it to fit.

Use a decent AVI to DVD converter. My top list would be FAVC, DVD Flick or ConvertxtoDVD. There is also avs2DVD and plenty of others in the Tools section if you take the time to look. Any associated guides will also be listed there.

Convert to DVD-Video? Then add both movies in ConvertXtoDVD and convert to one DVD. You don't have to do any shrinking after. You could also try the free DVD Flick.

If you use the correct bit rate to fit both movies on a single DVD then there is no need for shrinking. In fact, going to higher bit rate and shrinking it down to fit would actually be worse than just using the correct bit rate to encode with.

I'm going to try and use DVD Flick to see if it will work.

    Thanks everyone for the help.
