  1. Just a quick note to let you know a new version of the reg tool has been released.

changes since I last posted an update here

    *SVCD Templates Added
*Fixed incompatibility with non-english versions of Windows XP
*Added access to the 'noise reduction' settings for video inputs
(you can get to this via the 'Edit MMC' button)

please feel free to let me know your success (or lack of success) with the SVCD templates and the 'noise reduction' settings.

  2. Can you please tell me what the purpose of this tool is (or the version previous for MMC 7.1/7.2)? I use the ATI TV Wonder PCI card and MMC 7.1 under Windows XP. I'm always looking for updates that make it better. Thanks in advance.

  3. the version I posted the update about only works with MMC 7.5

it primarily used to make registry changes easier than doing them by hand

it's been used to set the bitrate to exactly what you want or set the VCD bit so your captures burn easier in Nero plus I have a few templates in there to make life easier.

the new version gives you access to the 'noise reduction' settings that aren't accessable through MMC

some people like the tool a lot and some think it's useless... it depends on what your trying to do.

  4. Thanks Stinky!

Where the heck can I get a copy of MMC 7.5 (or MMC 7.2 for that fact)? I have the problem with my ATI TV Wonder PCI where when I start the TV tuner, I get the messy diagonal lines. I have employed the suggested work arounds (kind of a hassle). But, if there is a newer version of MMC (I have 7.1 running on Windows XP), I'd like to get my hands on it to see if it resolves my problem. Any help here?

P.S. Do I just run your 'reg' program and set some tweaks in it via a GUI? This VCD bit is of interest to me for Nero. How does it improve the VCD burn with Nero (which I use)? Thanks again.

  5. To find MMC 7.5 you will need to search this forum. ATI keeps making people take 7.5 down - so the location changes all the time.

To use the tool for 7.1/7.2 just check out the read_me.txt in the zip file - it will give you all the background for the registry hacks. You can get MMC 7.2 from the ATI web site - it's the update for XP - it might fix your problems

  6. Well the only thing I appear to be able to get from ATI is 7.1. 7.2 is nowhere to be seen (I don't think I have ever seen it). Do you know something I don't know? Please advise further. Thanks!

  7. Thanks once again. However, 7.2 is not supposed to be used with the TV Wonder PCI capture card (which is what I have). Bummer. I'll have to me a bit more patient for the upgrade down the road.

While I have you - another question? I use Windows XP that was originally partitioned to FAT32. I have come up against the 4 GB file size constraint when trying to capture in AVI (using Videowave III), produce (using Videowave III), or encode (TMPGEnc), etc for larger video capture runs (20-30 minutes) trying to get the best quality capture scenario. I have tried using the ATI 7.1 software for the VCD MPEG-1 capture and I just haven't received the best quality. Maybe your reg tool will help in this. However, if I capture using the tweaks of your tool into a VCD compliant MPEG-1 with 7.1, but then I want to edit using Vidoewave III and produce to it's MPEG-1 format, will I lose the 'pristine' capture that originally came in from 7.1 tweaked going through Videowave III? Then I use Nero to burn the VCD. What's your thoughts on this path for capture, and editting?

P.S. Would it be smart for me to change the Windows XP partition from FAT32 to NTSC? They allow you do do a one time conversion. What are my risks?
