I've been using Sony Vegas 8.0 for a short while (about a month) and saw a video on youtube that was made by Vegas 7.0 so I looked threw 8.0 for some of the things the guy had in his video (like hard to explain really) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UYEVbrXXy0 (hope I'm not breaking rules >_<) Anywho the video on video on video layering, cut out video clips, squares/pentagons in the back, everything practically struck my interest so I've been up 2 days trying to figure out how to do it. I can't seem to figure out anything. And I even read the manual which describes the basics. If you guys could help me that'd be greattt. =|

Most (all ?) of it could be done in ealier versions of Vegas as well. The machine I am sitting at now has Vegas 6 on it, and it has all the tools required.

The box effect you are referring to is one of the transitions in the Portals series, called Mondrian.

The rest of it is a mixture of keying, possibly some photoshop work, and lots of time and key frames.

You need to download the tutorial videos from Sony and learn the basics of the program if you can't even find your way around the interface. It is a transition, so look transitions up in the Help Files and they will show you where they are, how to apply them, and how to modifiy them. Once you have the hang of that, look up transition envelopes, as you will need to modify these to drag the transition out across longer clips.

The magnifying effect can be done using track motion - again, the help files cover this much better than can be done in a few lines here.

If you have the bought version of Vegas, you should have the tutorial videos on the disc.

I went threw the transitions... its not there. And I downloaded the demo then bought the key instead of the disc. $200 for a key not a bad price. But thanks for the help. I was missing a patch file >_<

I don't know where you are looking, or why you don't have it. It is a standard transiton in both 6 and 7. I can't imagine they took it out for 8, but you never know.
