    Hello,

I have a DVD-R disc that someone made. It's not encrypted, just a home video. It was originally shot from a camcorder. I don't know what application they used to make the DVD. Since it is not encrypted, I just used Nero Express "copy entire disc". But Nero complained because my blank disc is a DVD+RW (it wanted DVD-R). Does it really matter if the source disc is -R and the target is +R?

So then I tried using DVD Shrink. It completed, but only the first section ("chapter"?) had audio! In addition, if I try to fast forward, the player (Apex AD1500) locks up. What am I doing wrong? How can I copy this DVD-R if I only have DVD+R or DVD+RW disc?

This newbie would appreciate any help on this matter

If it's not encrypted, just copy the VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD to your hard disk, using Windows Explorer or whatever. Then burn the folder to a new DVD (of either type).

I assume Nero will make this into a video DVD. If not, ImgBurn certainly can.

ImgBurn (freeware) has a copy mode for non-encrypted DVDs that makes an ISO out of them. I'd advise doing that and then using ImgBurn to burn the ISO.

Note that Apex players are OLD!!! I don't know about the AD1500, but I have an old Apex player and it just will not play DVD+/-RW discs at all. I can't rule out some compatibility issues here. Finally, I should also warn you that Apex players were very fussy about media brands. Mine would play just about anything in DVD+R but it was very picky about DVD-R discs it would play. It's generally best to stick the good brands like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden for the fewest playback problems.

Apex went out of business quite some time ago. Their founder got arrested on a trip to China in a tax dispute and as far as I know he never got out.
