  1. I'm just starting to get into all this VCD,SVCD,DVDR,etc. stuff and have no clue where to start. I found a hack for my stand alone DVD player and I don't know what region means or know how to set it to the right one to play a VCD. I have a Oritron DVD 800. If you could shed a little light on this for me I would appreciate it.

  2. if i am correct, region is basically set for different parts of the world. i think region 1 is USA. it has something to do with when certain movies are released around the world. if you live somewhere and you obtain a dvd that plays in a different region than what your player is set for, then it won't play. if you have the hack to open all regions then it will play it.....

  3. Regions are just a way of letting Hollywood studios control where in the world discs are allowed to play. They divided the world up into 6 pieces, and most discs are set to one (or sometimes more) region(s). Then, that disc is only allowed to play in players that are set to the same region. You also have to make sure you match up PAL and NTSC between your disc, player, and TV.

If all you want is VCD you don't need to worry about region encoding, only PAL/NTSC.

  5. i don't know exactly where pal is but in the U.S. its NTSC. for where to start. start over to the left with WHAT IS then move your way down the list in the HOW TO section and you'll get an idea of what it all is. once you get the hang of it its not hard at all..........
