After doing a lot of reading and spinning circle after circle and still a little buzzing around does this sound like the way to go to go through the process to make a dvd. I got some good advice from ozymango on another post of mine earlier as he set me on my way. I also got some ideas from dadrab and redwudz.
On my trips that I get home late I will do this procedure.
This goes back to another subject I wrote about last year called what seems to be the best all in one tool.
    Capture dv with WinDV.
I will drop entire unedited file to ConvertX, make one main title for the game and put chapter stops every 3 minutes or so (in a 60 minute game)
Create DVD files and then burn to DVD using built-in burner in VSO unless everyone feels imgburn is that much better?

For when we have home games and I have more time
    Capture with WinDV
Use DVDLabPro 2 to edit and author
    Burn with VSO or imgburn.

What would you do? I don't have a long time to learn anything and need it to be somewhat speedy but yet be able to create some neat things.

I just noticed that DVDLabPro will not edit unless you have the ES version. I have vegas 8 pro but can't get the 4.5 architect to work and 5.0 will not download right for me. What I am trying to say is would vegas 8 be a good editor and then using dvdlabpro2 to author? Or would would Mpeg video wizard dvd be a better editor?

dlp is a good authoring tool, not real good for editing. vegas is a good editor. the combo would be fine.

So you think capture with WinDV, edit with Vegas 8 Pro, and author with DVDLabPro? or is there a better authoring tool than DVDLabPro?

Now on my short nights does it sound good to capture with WinDV and edit and author with convertx?

That is pretty much my method (although I am still on Vegas Pro 6).

Are their better authoring tools than DLP ? That depends. There are certainly authoring tools that are easier to use, and arguably more stable. There are few that have as many options as DLP, especially for the price.

If you find DLP difficult or confusing to use, and find that you are using only a small number of the features it offers, then yes, there is probably something better out there for you.

I don't know that you will get much editing done with ConvertXtoDVD. Unless they have changed it a lot recently, it is just an all-in-one conversion and authoring tool.

What would you use in place of DLP or convertX?
I would be using ConvertXtoDVD only on travel nights when we were on the road and did not have much time to edit when we got back.

Personally, I love DLP and wouldn't trade it for another package. It works on my wave length, and there is little I cannot do with it. However it is not for everybody, and it is not for every job.

If your editing needs are simple, then for the away games you might just use virtualdub to trim the rough edges off, using Direct Stream Copy so that there is no re-encoding. You could then use FAVC to encode and author, including chapter stops. It is a better quality encoder than ConvertXtoDVD, but it's menus are basic (to say the least - I never use them). Burn the results with Imgburn. You might also consider the slightly quicker DVD Flick (latest beta does menus, apparently).

I really would not need to do any trimming on travel nights but just make menus with chapter stops for quick and easy access so the coaches can get around easily on the dvd. I will need to make about 20 chapters on the menu.

But on the nights where there is no travel and I have more time would you stay with DLP? I am looking at it and it does have a learning curve. Where is the best place to learn this thing?

Man, this program looks like a pretty good one but I think the learning curve might be a little bit too much for me to learn in a couple of days. I will need something that will make nice menus and chapters and be able to add music. In other words at this point I need something easy and good to author. I will practice working with DLP along the way and probably use it within the next couple of months. I looks like it has a lot of possibilities.
