I've heard about this program for a long time, but previously had no strong reason to check it out. I mostly use VLC and Gom on other systems, but need a WMP solution for an older laptop that has sometimes had sketchy results with Win Update, and problems in particular with WMP (v. 9), which I had to uninstall because of these problems. Now I'm finding that I have audio but no video from PowerPoint Viewer -- apparently because some form of WMP is a pre-requisite. Other players don't seem to fill the bill.
As I understand it, this MPC program seeks to "roll the clock back" to achieve a sort of pre-bloatware Windows Media Player, but still retaining some of its more contemporary functionality ? My question is this: WMP has had to plug numerous security holes over the years, some of which may have involved serious vulnerabilities. Has MPC also been taking care of such things all along ? I did a keyword search on "security" and "patch" on the long MPC changelog, but had no hits.

As Midzuki pointed out MPC has nothing to do with Windows Media Player or Microsoft.
Try a copy of mplayer2.exe (the old, 6.4, version of WMP that still comes with WMP). That may work for you. It is usually installed in the same folder as WMP, C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe. -
Thanks Jagabo (and also to Midzuki).Originally Posted by jagabo
I could transfer that file over from another system. Any particular location to put it, seeing as this laptop does not have an installed WMP ?Looking for Rare / Obscure / Hard-to-Find Films ? Check out http://rarefilmm.com/ , and also its Requests & Discussion forum http://rarefilmm.chatango.com
