    Hi all.

I have recently bought a Hauppauge PVR 500 MCE TV Card with dual tuners. I have also downloaded the WinTV 4.0 software from Hauppauge UK site. The software as well as the card are both PAL. I am facing three major problems as below :

    1) We, like the UK, are PAL and not NTSC. But after installing the software, everything has been set to NTSC by default by the installer. Therefore, most channels are appearing black and white or have poor picture quality.

    2) Only 4 channels are showing after scanning although there are a total of 75 channels acessible on my other TV card (Compro).

    3) Only one tuner has been installed and there was no prompt for the 2nd tuner.
(I installed the card some days before I downloaded the software. During that period, whenever I started the PC, the WinXP 'Found New Hardware' wizard appeared. It appeared TWICE, once for the 1st tuner and after cancelling it, again for the 2nd tuner. But now, when I installed the software for 1st tuner, the 2nd prompt did not appear).

I would welcome advice from anyone, especially Hauppauge users.

There are two other options also. One is upgrading my O/S to WinXP MCE version, but its too much of a hassle to upgrade your O/S. 2nd is using GB-PVR software but I have found it not very user friendly and could not configure it properly with my card.

    Thank you and regards.

The drivers and software(at least for my PVR-350) are not PAL/NTSC dependent. I downloaded my software and drivers from the English site...and I'm here in Germany and all works perfectly. I've had my PVR-350 (used) for less than 24 hours and it is up and running.

Do you have a cable connected to the second tuner ?. If not then the software may only recognise one by defalt.

When you run the software - I assume it uses WinTv2000 - you can select the signal source for your country from the drop-down box.

    Hi.

If you still happen to read this reply, please advise me how to connect the cable to the 2nd tuner. I can only see one cable input on my card.

    Thanks.

To be honest, I am not familiar with your card. My hauppauge is a much more basic one.

If you have only one tuner input, the other could be controlled by the software. But that is only a guess.

All I can suggest is that you carefully check all the settings especilly how you scan for channels and alocate channel numbers. I had a similar problem originally as my input is through the composite and not the tuner. It would not correctly assign the tv standard with C1 (composte only) but did so with an actual channel number.

You could also try to re-install the software. Run Hwclr from the CD, reboot and Windows will then re-find the new hardware. Carefully follow the installation instructions as the install will fail if the drivers are not installed first.
