I am just making sure that I am not going mad, I inser the dvd , press play and the motion looks like the people are moving like stick figures, then I pause and play and it corrects but does re-occur sometimes.

I can't advise you whether you are going mad or not.
But describe how you captured and processed the VHS to get to a DVD, the steps and programs and hardware used. Maybe there's a clue there. And secondly, can you post or link a ten second or so clip from the file that shows the problem? Less than 6MB here, please.
Meanwhile, maybe one of our members has ran into this problem before and can assist. -
sorry, did not really state my question, which is "Why would it play fine for a few minutes then "revert" to the stick figure syndrome.
I used a simple vcr to dvd recorder, but would have thought if I needed a TBC that it would be constant?PAL/NTSC problem solver.

Just a guess, but the player may be trying to read the disc and skipping frames to keep up. Maybe it's a disc problem? Try a different brand of DVD media? I've seen similar problems with computer software players where pausing lets the buffer refill, but not with DVD players. Maybe too high a bitrate, but that seems unlikely from a DVR?
You could put the disc in a computer and scan it for errors with something like Nero DiscSpeed or check one of the VOBS with Gspot for the bitrate or anything else that seems odd. Lastly, have you tried other players? If it works on them, then your DVD media may be questionable.
