    Hi All...

Can some one tell me how to hook this DVR up (cabling diagram would be very helpfull) using the following components.

Shaw (Motorola cable box) and Pioneer VSX D709SX Home Theater amp.

Want to be able to record one channel and watch another.

The manual shows one or the other but not both components in the mix.

    I am stumped. Helllllllllp! Please

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

    Cheers!

Here's a simple diagram (1st sketch for cable) for everything except the AV receiver/amp.

Might help some. I've got my DVDRs set up this way, and I run a digital coax (could be optical) from my DVDR to the AV receiver for watching commercial DVDs with DD5.1.

Thanaks for the response, but its the connect of all three components that I am struggling with. The manual shows setup for the cable box and the DVR or the Am and the DVR, but not all three, Thats the dfficult part.

Still hoping someone out there that has done this can help.

    Cheers!

There isn't one specific way to cable everything. Typically your cable box will input (audio and video) into the DVR. You then output audio from the DVR to your amp and video from the DVR to the TV.

However, how these three devices are connected will NOT affect/change your recording abilities. Two watch one channel and record a second channel you DVR will require TWO inputs. Either from two cable boxes or if the DVR has it's own tuner, then a seperate raw cable feed AND the cable box input.

Thanks Krispy Kritter. I think I got it figured out somewhat as I want it. I have the cable directly into the DVR (it has own tuner), then to the cable box, fromthe cable box tothe Tuner and from the tuner to the TV using the tuner control to specify what the source to the TV is. DVR or cable box). Took a few extra cables and connections but think I have it figured out now. Can record one and watch another, from cable, but the satellite feed is a watch only at this point. Still working on recording from it via the amp.

The DVR says it has VCR PLus+ capabilities, but it doesn't work... specifying the code works in terms of the date and time, but its too stupid to know the channel so you have to specify it separately as extra step, which kinda defeats the purpose of the VCR PLus itself. Even the guys at Pioneers say it doesn't work. Go figure.. they put a feature in that does not work!

And then there is the programming of the Harmony 880 universal remote to do the DVR functions. Just way more fun than a human being should allowed to have!.

Thanks again to all who helped here.

    Cheers!
