  1. I'm having trouble finding a quality player for my DV avi files. The type-2 AVI files captured from my camcorder. Media Player and Center, and VLC all play the video slightly fast. They are normal speed on Virtualdub, but it's not a good full screen player. I have a fairly new high speed HP Media computer so it's not lack of processing power. I'm tired of compressing my video. Now that hard drives are so big and cheap I just want to play my video uncompressed. The video looks great when compressed and playing on a DVD player.
It's just very slightly faster. Or maybe it's just kind of jerky and not quite natural looking movement. VLC's quality doesn't seem to be that great anyway. Media Center Player looks like it's better quality but it still has the same unnatural movement issues. Media Center looks fine with movies or TV that I've recorded.

    Computer specs:

    Q6600 Quad core
    3 gigs RAM
    Dedicated video card

  2. I find Windows Media Player decent enough for playing DV files full screen.

Bear in mind that almost any player will look jerky/unnatural because the native frame rate for your DV files is 29.97fps but your PC's display is running at 60/75/85 or even higher. The mismatch causes jerkiness. Also, DV is interlaced. The best place to view DV is on a regular TV or, if you have a suitable graphics card, a second monitor that is actually a TV. My nVidia 7600GS has a secondary output that can be configured for 29.97fps interlaced - DV files played on the TV connected to it look just fine.

If you still can't find an acceptable player, our software (link in signature) can play DV files full screen though I expect the jerkiness etc will still be evident.

  4. No - I've been out of town for a week (diving with sharks - armed with my camcorder!). I'll answer now.
