    I'm looking for a good free burning software that will 99% of the time only be used for burning data discs (no dvd or video files)

    ImgBurn can do DVD or CD data discs. Use the 'Build' mode.

    I use Imgburn for everything except audio CDs, for which I use Prassi ONES.

    I use Prassi Ones exclusively for audio CD's too. (It is a shitty ripper though)
    It recognizes and utilizes the entire capacity of my 800MB/90 minute recordables(with my LG drives - and none of that overburning nonsense) AND it writes CD text to the disc that can be later read in programs like ISOBuster...in case I want a quick list of what is on the disc.

    And because Imgburn doesn't do Redbook audio. It can burn audio files as data, but not as a Redbook compliant audio CD.

    You can try Exact Audio Copy ( EAC ) for the audio portion. EAC rips well and burns and is free, though I haven't tried the burn portion, I just ripped for use in my portable player.

    This thread is a bit old now, but it deals with my question to a tee:
    I love Prassi ONES and use it exclusively for practically any burning I have to do, mainly data these days. The burning engine is extremely reliable and even using the PC for additional tasks never produces any coasters!

    BUT I also have a question: Probably you have noticed that Prassi always shows the capacity of a 4,7 GB DVD blank disc as being 4,38 GB? Prassi's not developed further so is that the problem? (have got v. 2.1.358, it includes the update)

    Can I do/install anything to solve this problem?

    Thanks.

    It's using the binary gigabyte (2^30), as opposed to the decimal one (10^9).
    It's the same actual number of bytes.

    4.38 * 2^30 = 4.38 * 1,073,741,824 = 4,702,989,189 = 4.7 * 10^9

    Prassi is correct. A DVD-5 disc holds about 4.37GB. From 'WHAT IS' DVD to the upper left on this page
    * In the computer world is 1 KB data = 1024 bytes so 4 700 000 000 bytes / 1024 = 4 589 843KB / 1024 = 4482MB / 1024 = 4.37GB. See section 3.3 in the DVDDemystified FAQ here.
