  1. i just find a way to compare complete system
( HD speed and cpu speed , for capture response )

    the entire program is only 1 Mbite , ( download size 5OO K )

    i load a utility program at passmark.com ( performance test v3.5 )
and i run the complete test and get a specific result for each component

    these are my results

-------------with all background ---- fresh reboot without
-------------applications running ---- any applications run.

    Maths Mark ---------2O3.8 -------------- 2O4

    Disk Mark------------137.1 ------------- 16O.1

    MMx Mark------------2O4.1 ---------------2O5

    Overall Mark---------183.4 --------------- 190
    (passmark rating )

with this , i'm able to capture ( with AiW radeon ) direct Vcd , And Svcd withno frame drops ( yes it is not a perfect quality ! )
    but it work good

if sombody have other utility for testing , let me know

    Thanks for the tip.

I'll try it out. Since we have the same Capture card, what is your system like. What program do you use for capture. What frame size and data rate. Do you Capture in AVI and then compress to MPEG or are you doing direct capture to MPEG-1 for VCD?

    Thanks

  3. athlon 1.2 G , 256 mbram , Win98Se , Hd4OG 72OOrpm

i prefer direct Svcd capture , to save time
( not retired yet ), keep time for family , child ...

i use original Ati mmc 7,1 with these setting
vcd2.0 ( stinky registery )not so bad ( yes Vhs is better )
    Svcd 48Ox48O mpg2 2.4 mb/sec good result

one of my Key to success is my Apexad1500 ( the cheapest one )
it can read almost anything(direct mpg2 file burned in data format)

1 year ago , i was still trying to kept my 486 at 66Mhz
running , so you understand why i'm easy to satisfy with
    todays technology !

    i'm happy to share result

  4. How can you capture directly to SVCD-compliant format? Or weren't you implying that? I have an AIW 128 Pro w/32 MB.

  7. GGTRONIC, I did some experimentation on my own and found I could capture to (almost) SVCD-compliant format easily...

On my AGP ATI AIW 128 Pro with MMC 7.1 on WinXP, I just created a preset using 480x480, MPEG-2, 29.97FPS, 2.57 bitrate. After I Simple Demux and Simple Mux the resulting capture using TMPEG 2.02, Nero will burn the TMPEG'd MPG file without any complaints and it looks great on my DVD player. The TMPEG demux/remux takes only 5 minutes or so, so it essentially is on-the-fly SVCD-compliant capturing. It would look better captured to AVI and then encoded using TMPEG, sure, but the encoding would take hours.
