What kind of MPEG movies are your source? Are they high quality MPEG-2 movies from a DVD? Are they MPEG-1 from original VCDs? Are they random MPEGs you've downloaded off the internet?

My Mac doesnt have a DVD drive, so I went through the laborious process of ripping the DVD on a PC laptop, FTP'ing the files home into my Mac, then using bbDEMUX for OS X to demux the MPEG-2 video and Dolby Digital audio into seperate files.

  4. I was kind of wonderignif here was any program that could like convert the m1a audio files from when I use sparkle to split the video and the audio. If there is any program like soundapp but that doesnt lose the quality that would be great.

  5. I realized after I posted, that this was for Mac. I don't know if it's relevant, but here's the post anyway.

    There are two easy ways.
    1. open the file in Graphedit, select "wav dest" and "file writer" as your directshow filters, and play/run it. Instant wav file.
(BTW, this method also works on stubborn mp3 files downloaded from the internet, that will play fine, but act weird when burnt (like double speed for example) or which won't open in editing programs.)

    or
    2. open the file in TMPGenc, go to command bar and choose
File--> Add current project to batch list-->WAVE file
    then run.
    easy.
no loss of quality. But then realize, the audio source is ALREADY mp2 before you start!

That's how I'd do it on a PC. I don't know how much of this applies to Mac (if any) coz I don't use them.

A file named M1A is the same as a file called MPA or MP2. This is the audio compression format required for VCD and SVCD. Just rename the extension to whatever your program expects, and you should be good to go.
