    Hi again,
I'm trying to rip each individual episode from a DVD into an AVI, using AutoGK. However, I've run into a problem: AutoGK seems to insist on splitting the AVI into 2 seperate files. At first I thought, "Well, that's odd, but I can just merge them in VirtualDub.". Though, that's not the case, as these two "CD"s are far larger than the target AVI size that I specified. Anyone have any ideas why AutoGK is doing this and what to do to resolve the issue?
    Thanks,
    Justin

  2. When posting AutoGK questions, it's usually a good idea to post the log as well.

I didn't understand the question. First you seemed to be asking how to keep AutoGK from splitting the file. Secondly you seemed to be saying the file was too big anyway.

2 CD rips (1400 MB) are automatically split into ... 2 CDs. To keep it from splitting them, make it for a size other than 1400 MB - 1399 or 1401 MB, maybe. Getting the wrong size can be caused by several things. Having the log might help to narrow it down.

Sorry to be unclear. What I meant is that even though I specified that I wanted the output to be 175 Megs, it ended up splitting the output to two files. These files, if combined, would be around a Gig large.

I just tried another episode and I don't even understand what the log was trying to tell me. I have a snippet of it though:

    -
    [5/20/2008 11:07:11 AM] Duration was: 6 seconds
    [5/20/2008 11:07:11 AM] Speed was: 68.17 fps.
[5/20/2008 11:07:11 AM] Expected quality of first pass size: 10215.86%
[5/20/2008 11:07:11 AM] Trying to adjust settings.
[5/20/2008 11:07:11 AM] No adjustment is possible
[5/20/2008 11:07:11 AM] Warning: final AVI will likely be undersized.
[5/20/2008 11:07:11 AM] Running second pass.
    [5/20/2008 11:07:19 AM] Duration was: 7 seconds
    [5/20/2008 11:07:19 AM] Speed was: 59.37 fps.
[5/20/2008 11:07:19 AM] Job finished. Total time: 29 seconds

This resulted in one AVI, so that was a good thing. However, the AVI was beyond way too small. I should've examined it further before deleting it so I'd have more info. to share.

I just don't know why these things are happening. It's quite frustrating

When I get the patience to try it again, I'll post a more detailed log.

    Thanks for listening.

  4. That's only part of what's useful in that log. Something's seriously wrong, all right. Is this thing really 60fps x 7 seconds = 420 frames = roughly 16-18 seconds long? I doubt it, so is it only seeing part of the source video? Is the completed AVI all there, or is it short? Could your source be corrupt? If you wanted 175 MB, then perhaps it's an episode of some sort, maybe 22-25 minutes long, but I don't think it's seeing the whole thing. The earlier part of the log gives the length it sees.

Does this kind of thing happen to all your encodes, or is this the first time? Can you try a different source to make sure it's not something peculiar to this source?

Hi again. Well, I tried another episode and that one worked fine. It's just the one in particular that isn't working. You're right... it seems to just be picking up on the first minute or so, for some reason *scratches head*

  6. So maybe we've established it's not an AutoGK problem. My suggestion is to decrypt that first episode again and check it out to make sure it's all there before then feeding it into AutoGK. Good luck.

You were right. After decrypting it again it worked fine. I don't know what the problem was the first time around, but thanks for the advice
