Do you have a TV which can handle PAL signal?
Many times the problem is TV and its ability to handle PAL signal.

  3. I think your right, its the TV....the book indicates that it can do both...and i read some reviews on my player and people could ONLY play PALs with it in Europe, and had the same issue when they tried to play ntsc as I did when playing PALs! Darn...damn tv!
    thanks!

To solve the problem you can also get a converter (eg. Tenlab, http://www.tenlab.com/products.htm), which can convert PAL signal to NTSC.

I have one (Tenlab TR10) and I use it to convert PAL to NTSC and wise versa. It's a very nice piece of an equipment. It's also a digital converter and it can even enhance the original signal to get excellent results. The only downside is the price, about 550 USD.

And most of all when doing the conversion it kills the macrovision.
