    Is there some application capable of "wrapping" a vc-1 stream in an mp4 file
    Sadly neither mp4creator nor mp4box or mp4muxer support Windows Media Video 9
    Advanced Profile.

    For now, the Matroska container is being a good alternative:

    1 --> create the ASF-wrapped VC-1 stream;
    2 --> copy the video stream into a .mkv file with "Matroska Muxer";
    3 --> use MKVmerge to create another .mkv containing the VC-1 video,
    a timecodes.txt version 1 (to ensure a constant framerate) and the
    NON!-wma audio stream.

    So far, so good.

    Overdue update:

    --- TSMuxer GUI can put VC-1 into .TS and .M2TS;

    --- AVI-Mux GUI can put VC-1 into .AVI;

    --- ffmpeg and mencoder still don't care about VC-1 in .MP4

  4. VirtualDub can do it too (VC-1 in AVI), if you enable VC-1 in the ffdshow VFW interface. Not sure why you would want to though.

    I'm actually interested in why you would want VC-1 in an MP4 container.
    I hate VHS. I always did.

    2) The specs allow VC-1 to be stored in MP4;

    1) ASF sucks

  7. That chart looks a lot like a wikipedia graphic. Wikipedia has been known to have errors before. Do the official specs allow VC-1 in MP4?

    As for the article "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_container_formats",
    it still does not list VC-1 among the video formats supported by the .TS container.

    Another update:

    Well, few hours ago I took the time to correct that article;
    don't know if/when some official Wiki-vandal will come revert the edit. *shruggs*

    2)
    FFmpeg version SVN-r11870 && MEncoder Sherpya-SVN-r25962-4.2.3 apparently
    manage to copy an ASFed VC-1 stream into a .MP4 . Gspot says the damn file
    is a 3GPP video, the hex editor says the same ---
    --- but only ffplay can open it successfully, so far.

    Some progress: a tiny hexadecimal edit, and now Mplayer is able to
    open and play MP4-wrapped VC-1.

    Tested with KMPlayer: failure
    Tested with VLC: failure
    Tested with GOM Player: failure

    Conclusion: so far, only ffplay and mplayer are capable of calling the
    VC-1 decoder through the MP4 container. Haali Media Splitter detects
    the WVC1 fourcc and from then on... does not know what to do ---
    --- Media Player Classic "freezes".
