    Hello
I have Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 150 using widwos xp and I want to use virtualDub 1.7.8 to capture the VCR.
Clicking on -> Capture avi ->setting captue file , then i click on video -> compression.
and I see an empty list except from one line - "no recompression HCW2".
I do have divx and xvid and all the rest but they are not in that list,( although if I exit the capture mode and go to video->compression I do see the full list of divx and xvid and the rest) so whenI do the capture and later want to see the file after capturing I get this message: "couldn't locate decompressor from format 'HCW2' virtualDub requires a Video for Windows (vfw) compatible codec to decompress video. directshow codecs, such as those used be Windows Media Player, are not sutable."
I didn't find anything here and in google I found a solution which said to install divx and xvid again I did that and I'm having the same problem
    please anyone can help me?
    Thanks in advance

    Miki

I believe the Hauppauge cards will only put out MPEG2 (at least mine does). Hauppauge has an app called 'Wing' that can recode to DivX on the fly or you can capture using WinTV 2000 as MPEG2 and encode later. AFAIK VirtualDub isn't suitable to capture from a Hauppauge.

wow I didn't know that thanks
but why do I see this empty list although I have divx and xvid installed properly, is it because of Hauppauge card that I have?

The hauppage cards are MPEG hardware encoders, other cards have selections because its done with software utilizing the computers CPU.

Having said that generally the best software to use for capture on any card is that provided by the manufacturer. Have you tried that?

I tried the Wintv that they give and I couldn't see the video and the sound and wing is not free (didn't try it),
only in Virtualdub I can see video and sound but can't capture.AND in windows Movie Maker I can see the video but not the sound.
