I'm trying to copy a very old VHS tape of a TV broadcast onto DVD using a DVDr recorder hooked up by RCA cables. The video tape plays fine, however the on the DVD every once in a while it "stutters" briefly (such as it seems to freeze frame and then run through several quickly). Is there some type of setting I'm not seeing on the DVDr? Or is there anyway I could remove the stuttering on the computer once I have the DVD burnt?

    Thanks

Is it on the recorded file? Are you using a harddrive dvd recorder than and haven't burned the disc yet?

Two suggestions - use a better vcr with tbc for better tracking control - and use a good quality blank disc.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Yes it's on the recorded file, it's not a hard drive DVDr. The VCR quality is actually very good, and those issues don't show up on any other tapes I've tried recording (including some that are older and worse quality).

Well all I can suggest is to recapture it again and see if it reappears. The issue might be with your recorder if it happens again but is not on the original tape.

Or see if you know somebody with a computer capture card and try to go that route. If you can repeat the issue than you may have to live with the imperfection or buy more expensive equipment.

The VCR is an Aiwa HV-FX5000U and the DVD is a Sony RDR-GX330

I'm pretty sure your VCR is fine.

The problem with standalone dvd recorders is when the signal coming from external sources is too low/crappy/etc they tend to pause recording automatically, some even for just split of a second - which when playing it back later may seem like certain frames are freezing or some scenes are skipping.

Your best bet is either to use some TBC between your VCR and recorder (which will basically allow you to record from most crappiest sources to your standalone recorder), or use a computer for videocapturing (but still any time-based corrector may be needed).
