I'm just getting into the AVI thing and was wondering if there is a way of transmitting AVI videos to a tv instead of having to copy them to a cd or dvd disc. I'm running a PC with XP Home but I don't know the right questions to ask. Can't even Google it because I don't know what it would be called. Any help for an old and confused man would be greatly appreciated.

Many computers have TV outputs. Look for s-video or composite outputs from your graphics card. If your TV has VGA or DVI/HDMI inputs you might be able to use those. All these require that your TV be within cabling distance from the computer. Oh, you'll need to run audio too. That's usually a stereo mini pin plug to stereo RCA connectors.

Look for uPnP device / or Digital Media Extender
Popular hardware, Dlink DSM 320, DSM 520; Netgear EVA700; X-box; PS3...

I don't have a detailed link now. But basically, you install a "media server" software in your computer; those "computer like" set-top-box play it like "on-demand" - most of them work well to some extent. More or less, geeks' toys, althgouh not too difficult.
