Hi there. I am attempting to playback a .WMV file (It's a 1080p WMV-HD file which has been encoded using WMA Pro apparetly).

The file plays back fine in a variety of players (VLC, WMP 11, Nero, Real etc) but none of them have audio.

I have been able to get audio by importing the file into Movie maker but seem to lose the 5.1 surround and the picture quality deteriorates.

Can anyone give any advice on what codec/softwae etc I need to in order to this to playback as it should?

    Thanks
    Stan

  2. Use mediainfo or gspot on your .wmv to identify what audio codec is being used

Do other .wmv files have the same problem? How about other media files? mp3's etc..?

Many Thanks I will do that. I haven't encountered any other audio issues with WMV. I know that the audio is encoded with WMP Pro which isn't necessarily the case with all WMV files so it could be that.

I ready a post elsewhere which offered a solution which entailed updating the registry files on my PC. I'd rather not tamper with the dark arts to be honest as i'm not massively computer literate (as you may have guessed)!

    Cheers
