Just out of curiosity, is there such a thing as a Dual Layer DVD+-RW media?

No, not generally available, though a few have reportedly been marketed overseas. The cost and high failure rate doesn't seem to make them worth producing.

I disagree with redwudz a little. It seems that nothing except a few demo discs were ever made for the DVD+/-RW DL discs. Nothing has ever been reported for sale anywhere. I agree with him that it seems that these discs have a very high failure rate and cost too much to produce to be practical. They reported to be ready to ship "in just a few more months" or something like that over 2 years ago and we still don't see them, so you shouldn't count on ever seeing these discs. If I remember correctly the DVD+RW DL discs were said to be completely incompatible with current DVD burners and would require new burners. The jury was still out on the DVD-RW DL media and it was unclear if they might work with current burners or also would require a new burner. I think that a few burners were released this year that supposedly support one of these formats, but with no discs for sale anywhere in the world as far as I know, I would not count on ever seeing any practical use of the rewritable dual layer format.

Verbatim Europe officially said on the record that the discs were too expensive, too incompatible, and too prone to production failure. Therefore, they gave up.

Seems to be the only logical step.
