I authored a DVD (from an avi [XviD] file) just now using the mpeg2enc. In the Video tab I had it set as DVD 16:9 and in the filters tab added an srt file and since the subs were to high up in the frame, I changed their position from 80 to 94. I didn't change anything in the Options tab (so decoded with QT). The DVD comes out nice but I seem to have two sets of subtitles now: One is hard (and large) and one is soft (and small, as they usually are). I always use the ffmpeg codec so I don't know what to think of this. Is this normal? If not, any suggestions? I would prefer selectable subs.

The soft subs are by ffmpegX as intended. The hard subs are burned in by a combination of Perian auto subtitling, Decoding with QuickTime and the name of the subs file. The easiest way to avoid the (hard) Perian subs is to (temporarily) rename your .srt file to not match the movie file, e.g. "foo.srt" to "xfoo.srt", so the plugin doesn't find the file.

Alternatively, you could disable the subtitling by Perian in the System Prefs pane, if you 'never' want that feature.

    Aah, dat verklaart het...
By the way Case, about those subs. When I author a DVD I always use ffmpegX. I use the ffmpeg codec, load the subs in the filters tab and voila, I have a DVD with selectable subs. Last time I did this was a week ago. Now when I author a DVD, all of a sudden and for no apparent reason, the subs are way too high up in the frame. Position of the subs is 80. Is that the default? Can that be changed somewhere, somehow? And if it is the default position, why were the subs placed at the bottom of the screen before? Could it have something to do with some update for this or that? So now I'm forced to use the mpeg2enc (where I can change the subs' position), but it's a nuisance since that takes a lot longer to get the job done. Any thoughts?

I really don't understand. A week ago the subs would be perfectly positioned after authoring a DVD using the ffmpeg codec. Now all of a sudden they are smack, in the middle of the frame. Why? Did this come with the latest update maybe? I installed that very recently. Am I the only one having this?
