  1. I used to use Visual DV Time Stamp to put the date and time on my mindv cam videos but it does not work on video from the sony hdr-hc1...does anyone know of a program that will?

Visual DV Time Stamp only works on avi files i tried to change the file extension from .mpg to .avi it would not open the file.

Only if you use SD standard def DV format.

DV and HDV (MPeg2) are different standards.

Is there any software that will put the time and date on HDV?

Not many would know. Very few have HDV yet.

Try writing the people that currently write DV format software. They probably have it in the works.

It has the data code just like normal DV does so the info should be there. What other software can get the info from a mpeg file? I know there is some.

no -- it can read some user data , which is what you asked ...

you can also write a date and time on a mpeg file ... you have to enter it manually ..

    not very practical really ...

With Z1s: yes -- with any of the other HDV cameras - well not exactly .. but the info is there (same as consumer time stamp on DV) , which is recorded on tape data ....

the closest you can come that i know of is to use HDVSplit

    http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/

HDVSplit - utility for capturing HDV stream from your camcorder with scene splitting by timestamp. You can also split MPEG2 Trasnport Stream files captured earlier - new scenes are detected by date and time read from .m2t file.

we should add this in the tools section also ...

Remember that HDV is much more lossy than DV, so dropping down a generation, just to add a time stamp, is going to reduce the picture far more noticeably.

    Cheers,

Is there still no tool out there that will perform the same function for HDV as Visual DV Time Stamp?
