I am encoding 3 hours of DV Avi's to produce Mpeg 2 compliant files for DVD-R output. I have a fast system at the moment 1.4 Athlon 512 DDR, but I still need this to be faster. Therefore i'm looking to get a
Asus A7M-266-D Dual Xp Motherboard
2 x 2gig XP Processors
and DDR Memory (Not sure how much yet)
What sort of speed increase am i likely to get?? for encoding. Mainly using Tmpeg.
Anyone know which Version of CCE will i need?
Thx

Though I don't have the site handy, there is a review of that exact ASUS dual-AMD board and its speed increase with TMPGEnc. Search around on 2cpu.com in the forums.

I think dual AMD only take MP chip not XP I could be wrong but i think im right. I have read that dual is much faster but if you want a Dazzle 2 down the road stick with one chip and a MSI K7T266 pro 2 mother board

I'm using the Asus A7M266-D with two XP 1700's.
TMpgenc flies with this board!!!
VCD slowest (best quality) encodes 1/2 movie from dvd rip in about 70 minutes. Haven't tested at other settings yet. This is the setting I use most and like the quality the best.
Check on www.2cpu.com for deabte about xp's and mp's. Only a few report problems with XP's not working.
I've had no problems thus far.
Also, the Asus board has a few quirks so make sure you check out 2cpu.com. Major issues with what video card you select etc. I've had no problems with my Radeon 7500.
If you encode a lot it's worth the money. -
I have a Tyan Thunder K7 with 2 1.2ghz Athlon MP's. I use high (not highest) quality settings in TMPGEnc and encode VCD's in better than realtime. A 90 minute movie usually takes between 70 and 80 minutes.
I don't think CCE takes advantage of both processors. It actually takes me longer to encode with CCE than it does with TMPGEnc.
