Will I not be able to play my divx movies in the future?
Are there players that can have this disabled?
Is this something to worry about, or will there be a work around in the future

If its divx than it has already been ripped.
You might be thinking of DRM instead of hdcp in this case. HDCP is on the physical disc itself. That is why you would need hdmi on the player and the tv/monitor in order to receive full resolution.
I forgot the acronym but is something similar to csss on dvds just different for hddvd/bluray. That is what locks it out from being easily copied and needs a high def ripper program. Once ripped it is then converted to other formats. Now that said many bd+ bluray rips are having conversion difficulties from what I have read.
But hdcp won't affect divx movies from my understanding. DRM is a different story.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
As I understand HDCP it will not affect the playback of your movies. I believe it is primarily a technique to prevent the copying of content from the playback device to the display.
There are filtering devices that can remove the HDCP information out of a video signal so content can be played on a non-HDCP display. -
got it, so HDCP wouldn't be on a computer Blu-Ray drive for example, so you can't rip it, right?

AFAIK HDCP is end to end copyright protection.. this includes the cables and sockets. HDCP may affect divx movies that are downloaded on demand (not illegal torrents, purchased) if they are hi-def. HDCP only works over a hdmi connection.. it simply downgrades the signal to std res if it does not get the correct handshake. So std res not affected, (too late for that now)
. Not currently implemented much (False sense of security)

It is/can be used for all HD content (HD-DVD and Blu-Ray), including the PC.
There are other threads here concerning why Blu-Ray cannot be copied, and it isn't related to HDCP, it's BD+ (DRM).Google is your Friend
